The Shanghai eArts Festival is the world’s biggest digital festival and showcases the world’s finest talent in electronic art right across the country’s most dynamic and forward–thinking city. Fast-paced city life often leaves inhabitants feeling lonely, disconnected and alienated —a phenomenon prevalent in Urbanized Landscapes, which was the theme for the 2008 Shanghai eArts Festival.

In addressing this urban phenomenon, we partnered with Super Nature Design and presented Rabbit Wonderland, a series of innovative interactive touch points aimed at bringing some color, laughter and warmth to the streets of Shanghai.

And here is a video clip of the installation

The iconic symbol of “Rabbit Wonderland” is the friendly and lucky Rabbit, which traditionally enjoyed favor among the Chinese for its representation of auspice and peace.

There are several rabbits hopping around in “Rabbit Wonderland” on WuJiaoChang LED Square. One rabbit desires love and tenderness, and wants to be hugged and stroked. When the user strokes it through the Rabbit Touch Screen Kiosk, the giant facial expressions displayed on street-wide LEDs will transform from a grey-toned sadness to bright smiles, bringing warmth to the city.

Another rabbit wants the users to reach out to one another and make some noise! Whether it’s talking to a friend, laughing, shouting or singing, the more noise it hears, the brighter the light radiates from the rabbit’s body.
