Miraikan “TSUNAGARI” Project

The “TSUNAGARI” project (by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation) is an innovative project in which we can share scientific information with the world through a new form of visual expression, and provides us with “know – ledge”on our planet and our species. The globe, which measures an impressive 6-meters, is the world’s first large-scale spherical OLED screen. Hanging 18 meters from the floor, it has been constructed with aluminum and covered with 10,362 OLED panels, each measuring 96 x 96 millimeters. The spherical screen will be officially unveiled on June 11th as part of the museum’s brand-new “Geo-Cosmos” exhibit, where it will display scenes of clouds and other visions of the earth taken from a meteorological satellite.

National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation

The “TSUNAGARI” Project enables your understanding of the links(TSUNAGARI) among life forms in the ecosystem of the Earth, as well as the relations(TSUNAGARI) between the Earth and you, as evolved over Earth’s 4.6 billion years. The project’s mission is to help you position yourself within this great TSUNAGARI, and consider what you can do to enhance the connection (TSUNAGARI) of our current rich Earth to future generations.

The 3 tools are produced so that you can realize these TSUNAGARI in realistic ways. By utilizing these tools a new image of the Earth will be adopted and presented based on the various forms of TSUNAGARI composed from ideas from people all over the world, research data related to Earth, and the expression of artists. Additionally, the “TSUNAGARI” project features a totally new world map, the “AuthaGraph” (see inside for details), that will be adopted within the Geo-Palette and will introduce a new method of perceiving, “Earth without the center”.

The 11 March 2011 earthquake re-visited questions on the dangers and possibilities of cutting-edge science and technology. Never before have people worldwide attached such an importance to the visualization and sharing of scientific information. The three tools of the “TSUNAGARI” project exactly attend to these concerns. As a life form on earth, we should be aware of the “TSUNAGARI”, between us and all life, and thus create a vision for the future.

This fusion creates a “New Earth Awareness” as we transverse boundaries and integrate all wisdom. The “TSUNAGARI” Project will be offered worldwide as a foundation for transmitting information concerning our Earth.
